Day 142

Deuteronomy 30:15-20a “See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity; in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it. “But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it. “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him.

David's new room (room 903) at Summit Place is beginning to look like his old room at our home. Many of his posters decorate the walls. Many people have visited David in the past few days - we believe that he really enjoys the visitors. He responded to us today as we asked him questions: He would raise or lower his right leg to indicate his answer to our questions. We are amazed at how much he understands. He seems to be doing well overall. We still wait for the day he will speak to us and move his hands and arms and legs in a purposeful manner. Please pray to that end. We continue to pray for his full recovery. Just to give you a tangible example of the power of prayer (some of you at our church know about this already) a friend of ours at Second Presbyterian who is a 34 year-old plastic surgeon who is married and has a daughter a little less than 2 years of age - a year ago he was diagnosed with very agressive leukemia, he had chemo and eventually a bone-marrow transplant. Things seemed to be going well for several months until about 2 months ago when the leukemia returned with a vengence. Several tests confirmed it had returned and was growing rapidly. But the last 2 tests indicated that the leukemia was going away and the last test showed no cancer at all!!! Behold, the power of Prayer (to the One True God thru Jesus Christ). It gives us great hope and encouragement to know that hundreds, even thousands, of you are praying faithfully for David and us. We believe from the Scriptures that God ordains the situation, the solution, and the prayers of His people that He answers!! Please keep praying!!

Isaiah 53:10-12 "But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand. As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities. Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors."
