Day 329
Rom. 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and
weep with those who weep.
We
are sorry for not updating the website. Lots has happened and we are VERY
busy. Briefly, the entire staff at Roger C. Peace continues to work together
in David’s best interest. We cover them with our prayers.
Several
big items of news: Monday, April 12, David “passed” his swallow test for
pureed foods and thick liquids. This was a huge milestone and one I have
desired for a long time. Tuesday he ate some blended scrambled eggs and grits!!!
Also on Monday, his occupational therapists, Tonya and Nancy, began a series
of casts on his right wrist to try to achieve more range of motion. This
is going to be key in communication. RCP has asked for 3-4 more weeks to
meet all the goals of doctors and therapists. David’s caseworker thinks our
insurance company will agree. Other things that have happened (though I
can’t remember exactly when!): David actually held a toothbrush in his mouth
in an attempt to brush his teeth. He tried to hold his electric razor. He
has played a keyboard, using the bass guitar mode, of course. He has several
Recreational therapists. I’m sure his favorite is Kimbo. She has a seat belt
belt like he does! He used his right foot to propel himself a few feet in
the wheelchair (though backwards).
His doctor
is constantly “tweaking” his medication, particularly to decrease muscle
tone and achieve more range of motion in his neck and limbs. One result
of this, though, is sleepiness. Please pray for him to quickly adapt to
this and become more alert. David’s speech therapist, Jennifer, is hard
at work on a method of communication. She has borrowed a talking computer
for us to try. All of the therapists are trying to teach me (and hopefully
Rebekah next week) the most effective ways to work with him. Shawn and Danielle,
his physical therapists, stretch him daily to try to be sure he won’t get
more tonal. This is key to allowing him to continue to use the wheel chair
and not be confined to bed.
David’s
room is progressing well. This week we are blessed to have Robert’s parents,
brother, and sister-in-law helping with the construction. Many friends
also continue to help in many ways. Electrical inspection is scheduled
for today. Hopefully plumbing and HVAC inspections tomorrow and sheet rock
next week.
Psalm 9:10-14 And those who know Your name
will put their trust in You, For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who
seek You. Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion; Declare among the
peoples His deeds. For He who requires blood remembers them; He does not
forget the cry of the afflicted. Be gracious to me, O LORD; See my affliction
from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death, That
I may tell of all Your praises, That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may rejoice in Your salvation.
