Day 287
Nehemiah 8:9-12 Then Nehemiah, who was the
governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the
people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the LORD your God; do
not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping when they heard the words
of the law. Then he said to them, “Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet,
and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to
our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” So
the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, for the day is holy;
do not be grieved.” All the people went away to eat, to drink, to send portions
and to celebrate a great festival, because they understood the words which
had been made known to them.
Robert, Daniel,
and a friend are up on the roof over my head, so this will probably get updated
later on tonight. (I don’t know how to do it!) The addition for David is
still pending financial assistance from the Disabilities Board; however,
the preparation for that construction has precipitated many other projects
including replacing the windows and siding. Replacing the siding meant replacing
the roof and skylights that were on their last legs. But now to the part
you have all been waiting for: update on David. Since I did not want to leave
Robert alone on the roof this morning, I did not get to Summit Place until
later this afternoon. I was intercepted at the door by the director of nursing
who had something to tell me, “before you go down the hall to see David.”
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but she told me that David had persisted in
unbuckling the seatbelt on his wheelchair. He used one thumb to open the
buckle and the other hand to pull the buckle apart. She said, “I had to see
it for myself.” So she went down and asked him to do it and he did. She re-buckled
him and asked him to do it again and he did it again. So, they had to attach
a different seat belt to his wheelchair. After spending some time with David,
I was walking down the hall to leave and was “waylaid” by David’s occupational
therapist, Tony. He told me I had to see David’s physical therapist, Myrna.
She was practically running down the hall to show me David’s first drawing.
(His “special” therapist, Tammy, had a sick child and had to cancel his cranio-sacral
therapy.) When he first arrived in the therapy room, he was moaning in complaint.
Myrna told him “no therapy today,” and he suddenly got very quiet. She then
told him that he wasn’t getting out of work. She gave him a marker and held
a dry erase board near his hand. She asked him to draw a circle. He drew
half a circle on the board, then a muscle spasm set in and he finished drawing
the circle in the air. He did some other “scribbling” and Myrna wrote “David’s
First Drawing” on the board. She told him that if he could read what she
wrote to move his arm and if not, to move his leg. She said he moved his
arm vigorously. We are all very excited. Please continue to pray for David’s
physical, mental, and spiritual improvement.
Revelation 3:19-22 ‘Those whom
I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. ‘Behold,
I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. ‘He who overcomes,
I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame
and sat down with My Father on His throne. ‘He who has an ear, let him hear
what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
